Myth vs. Facts about Aging

Myth vs. Facts about Aging

Aging is something scary but one we must all face eventually. Ladies do not want all those physical changes like the white hair and wrinkles while our gents prefer to retain their masculinity throughout time.

But we all know nothing is permanent here in this world and even Helen of Troy will become wrinkly with age. Even though this is a scary fact, let us not think about it that way. As you can see, most of the things you know about aging are probably myths so ExPO Signature Home Care is going to list down some of these, myths and debunk it.

Myth:
Old people are all alike.

Fact:
When we think of old people, we can only classify them as two: the sweet ones and the grumpy ones. Well this is too much of a stereotype, do you not think so? In fact, as a provider of In-Home Care in New Jersey, we can tell you otherwise.

There is a diverse age group of old people in our society today. Some just experienced their retirement while others are way beyond their years already. Some are into sports and gardening while others are into knitting or even mountain climbing.

Myth:
The elderly are usually alone and lonely.

Fact:
Most movies we see about older people is that they are alone and that they have been alone ever since their retirement. We think that that is too farfetched.

A lot of the elderly under our service have maintained a connection with their family members. This connection is even evolving because of the technology we have these days. Family members can get in touch with their old relative just by clicking a button.

Myth:
Senior citizens are frail, sick and dependent on the help of others.

Fact:
Elderly people love it when they are given the option to do whatever is their musings while maintaining their independence. They personally love to continue living in their own house while being assisted with chores and other stuff hence the In-Home Care in New Jersey of ExPO Signature Home Care.

Myth:
All older adults are mentally impaired.

Fact:
Although a number of adults experience a decline in their mental processes, it is still rude to think that all of them are not cognitively sound. There are even elderly people who have mental disabilities but still continue living normally for their condition did not hinder them from doing what they need and want.

Myth:
Old people are depressed.

Fact:
This myth can be attributed to the second myth we discussed. People think that because older adults are alone, they would become lonely and therefore succumb to depression. The truth is; many senior citizens live in a good community ideal for people of old age thus giving them lower rates of depression.
